Day 10!!

Christina Enquist is a YA author and aspiring bookstore owner. She lives with her boyfriend and several pets in Visalia, Ca.

Would you sacrifice your humanity to save mankind?

IT’S THE YEAR 2828, and Domus is the last remaining country. Divided into twelve walled cities known as genuses, Domus spans what’s known as the purist lands—lands unaffected by the genetic modifications that killed all other species of mammals. But outside the walls of each genus the Immundus threaten the welfare of those within. From a young age, all citizens of Domus are trained for combat against these intruders.

At sixteen, Nia Luna knows little of the Immundus, except for the citywide alarms that ring any time an Immundus nears the genus walls. What she does know is that her own species is dying—their numbers dwindling as a mysterious disease called allagine kills many before their eleventh birthday. The same disease that ravaged her family when it took her sister.

When Nia is recruited into Genesis, a research company pioneering the path to a cure, she knows that her dream to find a cure for allagine is finally within her grasp. But within weeks of starting at Genesis, Nia witnesses something she shouldn’t have—something that changes everything. As she sets down a dangerous path that uncovers national secrets, Nia will have to decide not only what kind of person she wants to be but also how far she’s willing to go to save humanity.

Snippet:

The moment I get in my car, I direct Jules to Eric’s house, then thrust my head down between my legs and scream. I release every sound that was beating to come out—every terror, every devastation, and every shock.
He nearly made me kill someone. He nearly shot me. And then he killed that child anyway.
I step out of the car onto the sidewalk in front of Eric’s house. The world teeters and my head feels lopsided. Breath is hard to find. After what seemed like hours, I made it to the door, where Eric’s affable mother answers. She looks at me with concern, holding my shoulder as she leads me to a seat. The home smells of orange marmalade. She offers me orange juice, which I can’t resist.
“I just squeezed it, so it’s fresh.”
“Fresh-squeezed orange juice? Count me in,” Eric chimes, galloping down the stairs.
“Sorry I’m late. I ended up waiting for Jules to pick me up.”
“I’m just glad you’re here. Is everything all right?” Eric says, folding my hands into his. His wry smile affirms his appreciation of my presence, but his eyes paint over like Mrs. Marcello’s. In my periphery I see the beam of Mrs. Marcello’s smile. Eric may be her stepchild but I can tell she loves him and wants him to be happy.
“There’s something I want to talk to you about.” My eyes glide over to Mrs. Marcello’s presence. “Can we talk somewhere, please?”
“I know just the place.” He helps me up. I must look as bad as I feel.
“Mom, we’ll be in the atrium.”
“Okay, dear.”
Releasing one of my hands, he guides me to his home’s atrium. “Your atrium is so beautiful,” I say. All houses have atriums at the center, with hallways that lead out to various areas of the house. The entrances to the atriums have transparent shields that enable the home to maintain the optimum environment for the plants and vegetation to grow. The home knows to retract the shields upon our approach. The halls leading to the atrium remind me of spokes on a bicycle. Some houses have more hallways than others, depending on the size of the family—Eric’s house has five.
I admire the arrangement of flowers and plants around the outer edge and the Roman fountain in the center of the atrium. There are four benches, with green cushions that melt into the landscape, positioned north, south, east, and west, along the rim of the garden. We sit on the northern seat, farthest away from the hallway entrance that leads to the front room and closer to the hall that leads to the backyard. “Our atrium is just dirt right now.”
“That happens when you don’t plant anything.” He chuckles. His
chuckles always come from his stomach, deep and melodic.
“True.” The water is soothing as it cascades from the fountain lulling me into contentment. I can sit here for hours listening to the symphony of drops drowning out my thoughts.
“So what is it that you want to talk to me about?”

Allison Lockwood and Gavin Hunt have been offered the chance to take over the Lazy Daisy Inn and Campground so their respective grandparents, the current owners, can retire and marry. It seems all too easy for Ally and Gavin to prove themselves during the six-month probationary period until they’re fighting disasters at the campground and failing at over-optimistic baking expectations.

As Ally and Gavin slowly explore their growing attraction, they help each other fight fires, endure raging storms, and share a few passionate kisses. But there’s more than fires to fight when Ally’s grandfather disapproves of their budding romance and Ally is convinced Gavin has a girlfriend in the wings…a girlfriend expecting his baby!

Ride along as the two unlikely innkeepers figure out how they fit in their new life and learn the lesson taught by the Daisies in the Driveway.

Snippet:

“You got out of bed way too fast,” he whispered as he pushed her toward the sink, nuzzling her neck.
“If I had stayed, we would have been there for another half hour at least.”
“So?” Gavin lifted his head.
“I’ve got to start breakfast. There’s a mass of people to feed.”
“They can fend for themselves.” He kissed her neck.
Ally laughed softly. It wasn’t true, but it sounded fun. She spun in his arms and gave him an extra-long good morning kiss.
“Ahem.” A voice cleared.
Startled, they jumped apart and stared at the kitchen cabinets near the pantry where stood the two people they had hoped were still safely tucked away in their new house in town.
“Granddad.”
“Grams.”
Gavin and Ally spoke at the same time, moving further away from each other as the two elderly people stared them down, a package of flour held so tight in Oliver’s hands, Ally was sure the light powder would be cascading onto the floor in mere moments.
Oliver’s red face reminded Ally of a pomegranate and she had an almost uncontrollable urge to giggle. “What’s been going on here?” he growled.
“It’s not what you think,” Ally said. Gavin linked their hands and she wasn’t sure if that gave her courage or condemned her. The action certainly wasn’t overlooked by either Oliver or Ronnie. Ally was surprised Ronnie hadn’t said something yet. Maybe they had finally found a way to leave her speechless. Ugh.
“I think you two have filled the house beyond capacity, and made yourselves comfortable upstairs in the attic, in the same bed, and there’s a lot more to your relationship than business partners.”
“Maybe it is what you think.” Ally snickered.
“Gavin Tyrone Hunt!” Ronnie had found her voice and Ally worried she’d wake the entire house. “I thought you were raised better than that.”
“I was,” he said. “I mean, nothing happened.”
“Are you saying you didn’t sleep with Allison?” her cold voice didn’t waver, but at least the volume had lowered.
“No. Yes. No.” Gavin’s face was turning an impressive shade of red and Ally waited to see how he would get out of that one. “I mean, yes, we slept together, but that’s all we did—sleep.”
Oliver straightened, all five foot, ten inches of him and glared at Gavin. “And you expect us to believe that, especially after witnessing your little exchange just now?”
Ally swallowed hard, guilty for what could have happened, not what did. “Yes!” she said emphatically.
“Well, you’re going to have to do better than a simple yes.”

Gavin rubbed his jaw and headed for the back door. “I don’t have to take this. I’m a grown man. She’s a grown woman. And you’re not my father!” In a moment, Gavin was gone, leaving Ally with the two grandparents and a lot of explaining to do.

Day 8!!

Melanie is an author, designer, photographer, and flight attendant all rolled into one. She has told stories all her life and finds her passion in sharing the plots that spin through her head. She now lives in Portland, Oregon, with her two dachshund-chihuahua dogs. She loves the beauty of the Pacific Northwest that feeds her imagination.

When no one is listening, Melanie loves to belt Broadway songs in her living room and car. Someday she hopes to be on a flight where someone is reading her book.

To escape capture by Imperial soldiers, 16-year-old Eridale Storm leaves the only home she’s ever known and drags her younger sister into the wilds of Mericon—the Empire that formed when America collapsed. Hoping to find safety with their mother who disappeared when Eridale was three, the girls follow clues that lead them across the country, but the empire hounds their every step.

The journey draws Eridale deeper into the conflict between the Empire and the rebel Freedom Fighters, producing questions about Eridale’s heritage, questions no one wants to answer.

Caught between the threads of deception, rebellion, and betrayal, Eridale struggles to find out who she is. The answers she finds could lead the country back to freedom or shackle them under the imperial throne forever.

This is book 1 of a 4 book series and not a stand-alone book.

Snippet:

“Who’s there?” I call out.
            No one answers.
“I know you’re there.” My announcement is ignored. Alone, unarmed, and naked, I’m not much of a force to reckon with.
I move silently through the water, keeping only my head above the surface until I reach the edge of the pool where I left my robe. Though I’m still in the water, I pull my robe in and wrap it around my body before moving back into the steam.

Seconds tick by, and my heart hammers in my chest. I move to the right and hear the tiniest whoosh. A pinch in my neck brings my hand up, and a small dart falls into my palm. My brows furrow for a second before the room starts spinning. I slosh through the water, trying to reach the edge, and my legs give out. Water envelopes my body, and darkness claims me. My last cognizant thought is I’m going to drown

Day 7!!

Lynn U. Watson has incorporated her love for Jesus and passion for essential oils into a three-volume devotional Collection, sharing spicy and aromatic essences of Scripture. Her devotions encourage you to diligently cultivate your heart and grow your roots deeply in an intimate relationship with Jesus. Lynn holds a BA in Journalism from University of Memphis, a certificate in aromatherapy, and is a practicing reflexologist.

She and Steve have been married since 1973 and call Bartlett, Tennessee home. Their lives are blessed with two adult children, their spouses, and five beautiful, of course, grandchildren. Jasmine, her tuxedo kitty, runs the house. Her current work-in-progress is a novel inspired by a painfully challenging event in the life of her great-grandmother, changing the course for her family forever.

All three of the Cinnamah-Brosia devotionals in one ebook volume!

Fruits; spices; essential oils; & botanicals of all kinds sprinkled over & planted on the pages of the Bible provide insights into God’s word. Our Coffee Cottage’s fictional characters, Cinnamah-Brosia and friends, courageously use the essences to season the world around them with an overflowing measure of Jesus. All three volumes of Cinnamah-Brosia's Inspirational Collection for Women are featured in this single e-book.

"The Essence of Courage: Cultivating the Fruit of the Spirit in Solomon’s Locked Garden and in Your Heart"

As you breathe in the fragrant aromas found in Solomon’s Locked Garden (Song of Solomon 4), you'll harvest the Fruit of the Spirit and cultivate it in the garden of your heart.

"The Essence of Joy: Filling Your Heart with the Aromas of Jesus’ Nativity"

The scents of Christmas invite our imaginations into the holiday season. What emotions flood your heart when the holidays aromas waft your way?

You’ll meet women of the Bible and contemporary women (Cinnamah-Brosia and friends) like you and me who will encourage you to discover the refreshing essence of a life lived in the presence of Jesus. Let JOY fill your heart with the aromas of His nativity.

"The Essence of Humility: Live and Love Like Jesus"

We live in a culture overwhelmed with disrespect, egos, entitlement, rudeness, and offense — lives focused on self, rather than God or others.

Jesus entered our world and walked among us. He placed no importance on rank or position. Jesus’ life reflected love because it reflected humility, and He invites us to live and love like Him.

You’re invited to travel with Cinnamah-Brosia and friends once again to meet real-life people — our contemporaries and those on the pages of God’s word, who encountered the same real-life challenges you and I face each day. Learn the blessings of a life lived like Jesus lived —- with love and humility.

Snippet:

From The Essence of Humility:

I loved the purity and simplicity of linen fabric. No fancy weave — just open and airy — it’s color most often natural or ivory. Those characteristics give it a humble character, creating the perfect background to showcase cross-stitch and embroidery designs and skills.

God chooses linen for the wedding gown of the Bride of Christ. Look what it signifies.

Let us rejoice and shout for joy! Let us give Him glory and hon- or, for the marriage of the Lamb has come (at last), and His bride (the redeemed) has prepared herself. She has been per- mitted to dress in fine linen, dazzling white and clean — for the fine linen signifies the righteous acts of the saints (the ethical conduct, personal integrity, moral courage, and godly character of believers).   (Revelation 19:8, Amplified Bible)

Linen’s purity and humbleness create the perfect backdrop for the righteous acts of Jesus’ followers — His bride. Others observe the difference in our lives when we are in relationship with Jesus!

Integrity, moral courage, godly character, and ethical conduct stand out in our self-serving society. The beauty of a life lived like Jesus lived and loved stands out on its humble background — a beautiful masterpiece!
